Jul 23

I didn't really finish off yesterday's post. Probably because I was at the pub. But the Scouts had another event in the evening called the Karnival. It had the usual sumo suits, some other games, and they brought in a bucking bull machine. I don't think many of our Scouts stayed too long by what they tell me, but that gave them some time to chat with their friends in their sub-camps.

This morning was another beautiful day. The hourly weather forecast changes by the hour around here. It is unbelievable how inaccurate the forecasting seems to be compared with back home. I have been watching the forecasts at http://www.accuweather.com/ukie/index-forecast.asp?postalcode=PH16%205RJ, but here they are of course using some BBC weather forecast which is different but no more accurate. They were predicting clear all day, except a rain shower at 7 pm, then clear again. The current forecast is for that shower now at midnight. It's actually clear now at almost 11 pm but getting very cold. They say it will drop to 8 tonight. It feels like 8 to me already.

I saw several of our Scouts out and about today. They always seem pretty happy about what is going on. The selection of activities is very large. They'll only be able to try less than 1/3 of them so they have to choose wisely. They just opened the swimming hole down at the river. But I have heard the water is very cold so only the bravest are going to try it. I had time off today to tour Blair Castle so I didn't get out to see them at their activities this afternoon. I know Shannon and Shayla took on the pioneering today. They are building a nearly life sized pirate ship by lashing poles and beams together. That is going to be very impressive by the time the camp is over.

Tonight the event was live music in the Kastle for the Scouts. Not as crowded as the disco but a lot of fun. Most of the Scouts come out to at least see what is going on, even if they don't dance. There were actually 2 live bands playing. I think they were both reasonably local but popular Scottish bands. One of them was called The Lorelei. You can check out their music at http://www.thelorelei.co.uk/.
I think some of you might recognize this little bit of Canadiana.  I spotted it in the grass in MacDonald subcamp.  It seems pretty obvious to me without being told that this was John's handiwork.  He has built others along the way on our trip.  One of them on the way back from the Bothy house on our hike in Glenmore.
